Mr. John Campbell is the new Assistant Principal of Hattie A. Watts Elementary School. “My strength is working directly with students to show them their strengths and help them to build upon their potential.”

Mrs. Lakeisha Declouet is the new Assistant Principal of Berwick Elementary School. “It is my belief that every student is worthy of equitable education, love, and opportunities. It is my goal to help fulfill these measures.”

Mrs. Janet Francois is the new Assistant Principal of West St. Mary High School. “I strive to lead with integrity, build meaningful relationships, and create a school culture where students achieve, teachers grow, and excellence becomes the standard.”

Ms. Tamatha King is the new Assistant Principal of Franklin Jr. High School. “Joining the Franklin community as incoming Junior High Assistant Principal is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity. I look forward to supporting, learning from, and growing alongside our students, families, and educators as we continue to make a difference together.”

Mrs. Sarah Olivier is the new Assistant Principal of B. Edward Boudreaux Middle School. “I am honored to return to the Wolfpack community and excited to join the BEB family. I look forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to cultivate a school culture where relationships matter, high expectations inspire growth, and every child is empowered to reach their fullest potential academically, socially, and emotionally.”

Mrs. Shemera Francis is the new Dean of Students at Wyandotte Elementary School. “I am honored, humbled, and excited to serve as Dean of Students. I am ready to lead with faith, purpose, and a commitment to helping students succeed.”

Mr. Chase LeBoeuf is the new Dean of Students at Julia B. Maitland Elementary. “I look forward to bringing that experience to a younger student population and contributing to a positive, supportive, and structured learning environment at Maitland. I am especially enthusiastic about building relationships with students early in their academic journey and partnering with staff and families to promote student success.”

Ms. Delonda Richardson is the new Dean of Students at LaGrange Elementary School. “I have the chance to build relationships and assess instructional practices to provide educational support for the betterment of students and staff.”

Mr. Herman Hartman Jr. is the new Dean of Students at Morgan City High School. “I once walked these halls as a student. Then a teacher. Now I have returned as a leader. Proof that where you start doesn’t determine where you finish.”
 

Bayou Vista Elementary School Principal Appointed: Mrs. Rebecca Pye

St. Mary Parish Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Mrs. Rebecca Pye as the new principal of Bayou Vista Elementary. This vacancy was created by the appointment of the outgoing principal, Mrs. Kiante Gunner, who was recently named Director of Human Resources.

Mrs. Pye currently holds the position of Assistant Principal of Berwick Elementary where she has served for five years.

In this position, she has played a vital role in enhancing school effectiveness by streamlining processes, implementing instructional best practices, and cultivating a positive learning environment for students and staff. As a dedicated member of the Instructional Leadership Team and PBIS Team, she has helped lead initiatives focused on student achievement, school culture, and overall school success.

Mrs. Pye notes, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this incredible school community. I look forward to leading alongside a dedicated team of educators who share a passion for student achievement.”

Franklin Junior High School Principal Appointed: Mrs. Laquanda Gray

St. Mary Parish Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Mrs. Laquanda Gray as the new principal of Franklin Junior High School. This vacancy was created by the appointment of the outgoing principal, Mr. J Ina, who was recently named Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance.

Mrs. Gray currently holds the position of Assistant Principal of Franklin Junior High School where she has served for three years.

In this position, she assisted in implementing the STAR Academy Initiative and has led numerous support programs and targeted interventions designed to improve student achievement and attendance. Throughout her career, she has served as Title I Chair and PBIS Chair, while also fostering strong partnerships with community organizations to enhance parent and family engagement.

Mrs. Gray notes, “I am deeply committed to the mission and vision of Franklin Junior High School. I am honored to serve this school community and look forward to building on our successes as we inspire, challenge, and prepare students for a bright future!”

Patterson High School Principal Appointed: Mr. Lane Larive

St. Mary Parish Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Lane Larive as the new principal of Patterson High School. This vacancy was created by the resignation of Amy Vaccarella.

As a proud PHS graduate, Mr. Larive is returning to the position of Principal of Patterson High School where he formerly served in the position for four years.

In this position, he led school improvement initiatives that increased student achievement, improved discipline, and nurtured school spirit. He led a strong team, as well as established strong partnerships with district staff, students, families, and community organizations. He brings a wealth of experience to this role and is committed to building upon the proud traditions and strong legacy of the Lumberjacks. Mr. Larive notes, “I am incredibly honored to lead PHS and look forward to working alongside our students, staff, families, and community. I am excited to get started and continue to make Lumberjack ‘Who Dat’ Nation proud. Once a Jack, ALWAYS a Jack!”

In this position, she has been an integral part of all aspects of the system; therefore, the transition to operations will be seamless. Her start in administration was as the assistant principal at Centerville High School for ten years. She was then appointed as principal of Centerville High School where she served for seven years. She brings a wealth of knowledge and thirty-one years of experience in St. Mary Parish Public Schools to the role of assistant superintendent. Ms. Estay notes, “I am particularly drawn to this position because it would allow me to continue serving our district in a boarder capacity. I remain committed to continuous improvement, collaborative leadership, and excellence in education.”

In this position, his school earned Top Gains recognition and implemented the STAR Academy Initiative. Mr. Ina has also been a coach in St. Mary Parish in multiple sports since 2010 and has served as Athletic Director. He brings a “get it done” attitude and twenty-five years of experience in St. Mary Parish Public Schools to the role of Supervisor of Child Welfare & Attendance. Mr. Ina notes, “I am committed to elevating student outcomes and fostering a unified sense of pride and direction throughout St. Mary Parish Public Schools.”

In this position, she led strategic school improvement initiatives resulting in an SPS letter grade of A, earned Opportunity Honoree recognition and Top Gains recognition. She has led a strong team in her tenure at Bayou Vista Elementary. She brings a knowledge of governing laws and policies and 22 years of experience to this position. Mrs. Gunner notes, “I am passionate about supporting employees, strengthening systems, and helping organization move forward with purpose and consistency.”

Into the Woods is a musical intertwining Brothers Grimm fairy tales, focusing on a childless Baker and his Wife who attempt to break a Witch's curse by collecting magical items from Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel. Act I follows their success and "happily ever after," while Act II explores the dark consequences of their actions when a vengeful Giant threatens the kingdom, forcing them to take responsibility.

This day, celebrated annually since 2013, was designated by The School Nutrition Association and Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to nearly 30 million of America’s students each school day.

Each student that brings a LEAP prize will be given a coupon to dress down on a designated day!

LEAP Prizes will be raffled off to hard workers during LEAP testing!

What kind of prize to send? Anything your child would like to win! Sports balls, lego kits, movie sized candy, hot chips, pool floats, spa gift sets, squishes, etc!

We will be having an Easter Egg Fundraiser Competition between homerooms. This fundraiser is being held to support the PJHS Dazzling Jills Dance Team. Please read the directions below so there is no confusion about how this will work.

🧺 What is happening?

Students will be able to purchase paper Easter eggs to place in their homeroom teacher’s Easter basket.
The homeroom class that collects the MOST eggs will win a pizza party.

📅 Important Dates

• Fundraiser runs: March 23rd – April 1st

• Winning class pizza party: April 2nd

💰 Cost & Payment

• Each egg costs $1

• Cash ONLY

• Students will purchase eggs during homeroom only

📦 What teachers will receive

On Monday morning, all homeroom teachers will be given:

• 1 Easter basket

• 1 bag of paper eggs

• 1 flyer to hang in your classroom

• Hang the flyer in a visible spot

• Allow students to bring cash and purchase eggs during homeroom

• Turn in cash in secured envelope in your morning folder

• Note how much you turn in each day on the outside of the envelope 

• Make sure eggs are placed in your homeroom basket

At the end of the fundraiser, eggs will be counted and the winning homeroom will be announced.

The Red Ribbon Committee is now accepting ART submissions for the 2026 Red Ribbon Week Campaign!

PRIZES: Winning art submissions will be included in the campaign calendar, and the artists will receive a framed copy of their artwork. The Grand Champion will receive $100, and his/her artwork will be showcased on the cover of the official Red Ribbon calendar and campaign T-shirt. All winners will be presented at the August 2026 School Board Meeting along with the Red Ribbon Slogan Contest Winner.

GUIDELINES:

1. The contest is open to all ages. Groups are PK-1st, Grades 2-3, Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12, and Adult.
2. The entry must be drawn on an 8 ½” X 11” sheet of plain white paper.
3. Entries may be done in ink, markers, colored pencils, or crayons. Pencil (lead) submissions will not be accepted.
4. All drawings must be in “landscape” layout to fit the calendar layout and any other publications of winning artwork. Submissions that are “portrait” layout will not be accepted.
5. Copyrighted cartoon characters, movie characters, images, or pictures, etc. will not be accepted.
6. Submissions with cut and paste digital art or with cut-out and glued-on images will not be accepted.
7. The slogan, “Your Future is KEY!" — BE DRUG-FREE! must be featured on the artwork. It can be typed or hand-written on the drawing but must be the main words on the drawing.
8. Once winners are chosen, to be acknowledged as a winner in the contest, winners under the age of 18 must submit a signed parental consent form.

The DEADLINE to submit an entry is Friday, April 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM. You can submit entries to Gidget Everitt at the COC via pony, email, or mail (P.O. Box 170, Centerville, LA 70522)

Congratulations Lumberjacks! The State of Louisiana released 2025 School Performance Scores today and PJH has come out on top! We are proud to say that we are the highest performing middle school in the district! It's a great day to be a lumberjack! 

Prize:

The winner will receive a cash prize of $75.00. Media announcements will feature the winning student, the winner's art/classroom teacher, principal, and superintendent. The winning design will also be featured on the cover of the December 2025 School Board Agenda booklet, and a framed copy of the selected design will be provided to the winner.

Drawing Contest Rules:

1. The student's design must include a message that relates to the school learning community. 

Past messages include: Raising Achievement and Wishing you a Merry Christmas; The Gift of Education is Priceless; May the Splendor of this season remind you of the Splendor of education; Sending yuletide joy and happiness for a good education; May the miracle of Christmas fill your stocking with success; Be a guiding star to knowledge; Wishing you the gift of learning, the blessing of education, and the hope of knowledge; Wise men seek a good education. 

Students may re-use one of the messages listed above or create their own unique message.

2. The card's drawing must include the chosen theme, clearly written in the drawing. Additionally, it is imperative that the card 'depicts' St. Mary Parish schools.

3. Student must write his/her name, school name, and St. Mary Parish at the bottom of the front of their drawing.

4. Do not use cut-outs or paste-ons.

5. There is no limit to the number of colors.

6. The entry must be drawn on regular size, plain white paper (8.5" X 11"). No pencil drawings (Black & White). Drawings may be in either a landscape or portrait layout.

7. The contest is open to all students in St. Mary Parish public schools. 

8. The St. Mary Parish School Board reserves the right to include the current academic slogan and logo on the winning design.

9. All entries must be turned in to Sarah Ghirardi at the Central Office Complex by the deadline below.

PJHS Football game rules and regulations

-Gates will open 45 minutes prior to kickoff. No re-entry allowed if you leave the stadium. $7 per person, cashless.

-Tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and controlled substances are prohibited on school grounds. 

-No outside drinks, cooler, bags or backpacks. Clear bags only. All fans are subject to metal detectors. 

-Only authorized personnel are allowed on the field and track areas. All spectators must remain in the bleachers unless purchasing from the concession stand. No spectators are allowed to view the game from downstairs.

Fall Pictures

Students may wear "Sunday Best" school appropriate clothes. No spaghetti straps, joggers, tights, crocs, or slides. The pictures will be a yearbook style photo.

Dress Down Guidelines: 

-Students have the option of dress down days when designated by the principal. Students that do not adhere to dress down guidelines will not be allowed to participate in future dress down days.

Patterson Junior High School versus Ponchatoula Junior High School! We are excited to kick off the school year with a football scrimmage! The scrimmage will take place Sunday August 10,  at 11:50am at the New Orleans Caesars Superdome!

Tickets may be purchased at https://pbraise.co/pattersonjrhigh or by scanning the QR code. Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased by Saturday, August 9. All ticket purchases must be made online; tickets are not sold at the event. Traditional Superdome concessions will be sold and remember that they are completely cashless. Guests are responsible for their own paid parking. The Superdome will have paid parking available in Garage 6 and ADA West Parking, or guests can use any pay and park public lot. All guests will enter through Gate A and show their proof of purchase pass. It is suggested that all guests arrive at least 30 minutes before game time and be seated in the designated sections 113-116. Caesars Superdome enforces a clear bag policy. Guests can park in Garage 6 and can pay for parking on arrival (credit/debit only). All attendees may enter through Gate A ground on the Poydras side (north) of the Superdome and will be screened before entering, clear bag policy, this includes fanny packs. Check-in tables will be in the lobby on the right side for anyone needing to check in.

Spectators will go up the escalator to the mezzanine and continue to go up the next set of escalators to the plaza level. Once they reach the plaza level, they will take a left and walk along the concourse toward Gates B, C, and D. Along the way they will come across sections 111-117.

Over the years, she has served as a Middle and High School Science teacher, Academic Success Coordinator, and ACT tutor—most of that service within St. Mary Parish.
In 2007, she earned her Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Nicholls State University. Her leadership journey continued in Lafayette Parish, where she served as assistant principal at Edgar Martin Middle School beginning in 2017 and at Youngsville Middle School starting in 2021. Throughout her career, Mrs. Gautreaux has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic success, student advocacy, curriculum development, and instructional leadership. She shared, “I am excited about the opportunity to bring my leadership skills, deep curriculum knowledge, and student-centered mindset to the St. Mary Parish School System. I welcome the chance to contribute to the district’s academic goals and serve as a collaborative partner in advancing student achievement.”

She is recognized for her commitment to coaching and support cycles that strengthen teaching practices and improve learning outcomes. A passionate educator, Mrs. Cummings earned her Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education in 2017.

Mrs. Cummings began her educational journey in 2008 at Raintree Elementary School as an Intervention Tutor and Fast ForWord Lab Proctor. Since then, she has served in several key roles, including classroom teacher, Steve Carter Literacy Tutor, SMPPS Online Teacher, and most recently, Curriculum Facilitator at J. B. Maitland Elementary School.

“I am eager to contribute to the district’s mission by ensuring that all students – especially our youngest and most vulnerable – receive the support they need to thrive,” said Mrs. Cummings. “I am ready to do the work!”

Most recently, Mrs. Jones has served as Assistant Principal at Berwick Junior High School since 2022. During her tenure, she has been instrumental in leading middle school professional learning communities, focusing on best instructional practices and effective coaching cycles. Her leadership has been characterized by a collaborative approach and a strong commitment to instructional excellence.
“I am particularly drawn to this role because of its focus on collaboration, curriculum support, and continuous improvement,” said Mrs. Jones. “I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the district’s mission and support ELA educators in delivering impactful instruction.”

Since joining the district in 2014, she has steadily advanced through a variety of roles, beginning as a Pre-K Paraprofessional, then serving as a Clerk Typist II, and most recently as Human Resource Administrative Assistant for the past four years. In her previous role, Mrs. Morris played a key part in maintaining teacher certifications, managing personnel processes including new hires, transfers, and promotions, and supporting the administration of HR systems.

Reflecting on her new position, Mrs. Morris stated, “I bring a strong understanding of school operations, state certification processes, and human resources best practices that align perfectly with the goals and responsibilities of this role and my commitment to St. Mary Parish Schools.”

“I believe in fostering an environment where educators are supported and empowered to grow in their practice, which ultimately benefits our students,” said Mrs. Olivier. “Together, we will continue to build upon the strengths of our staff and provide a nurturing, challenging environment for all students to excel.”

25-26 PJHS Band Students

5th graders only

All 5th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in band during the first few weeks of school. During that time, students will be able to sign up to be a member of the 25-26 PJH band. Parent letters will go home during the first full week of school including information regarding sign ups and instruments. Band spirit shirts will be available for purchase to students that sign up. The deadline to become a band member is August 21! All students must have an instrument by September 8. 

6th, 7th & 8th grade band members $40 Fee

-All 6th, 7th & 8th grade band members are required to pay an annual fee of $40. The fee covers the cost of travel expenses throughout the year, off sets the cost of festival fees, and it includes a band tee (which will be worn for football games.) All 6th, 7th and 8th graders must pay the $40 fee online by Wednesday, August 13!

Mrs. Harrison brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to the position. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (Grades 1–8) and Mild/Moderate Special Education (Grades 1–12), earned in 2001. She later obtained a Master’s in Educational Leadership in 2016 and holds additional certifications as an Intervention Content Leader, PreK–3 educator, and English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor.

Mrs. Harrison began her teaching career at Bayou Vista Elementary in 2001. Over the years, she has served in multiple instructional and leadership roles, including teacher, interventionist, curriculum facilitator, Title III Specialist, and most recently, Elementary Instructional Specialist. Her extensive experience in federal programming, particularly in PreK and ESL education, will serve as a tremendous asset in her new role.

“My work managing Title III and Immigrant budgets, preparing compliance reports, and supporting Title I schools has provided me with valuable insight into federal programs and spending,” said Mrs. Harrison. “More importantly, I have witnessed how these funds can directly enhance instructional quality when strategically aligned to student needs.”

Mr. Regard is a proud graduate of the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, and a veteran of the U.S. Military. After serving his country, he returned to his hometown and began working in the oil and gas industry. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2003, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012.

He has served as a social studies and career and technical education teacher in Iberia Parish where he also held leadership roles as Assistant Principal at Westgate High School and Supervisor of Transportation. Most recently, he served as Director of Operations for Food Services in Lafayette Parish.

Mr. Regard is excited to tackle the challenges of his new role. His experience managing large systems while supporting employees, practices, and services has been one of his greatest strengths. He stated, “My goal is to remain focused on fostering collaboration, effective communication, and implementing innovative solutions to challenges that arise.”

Most children will be automatically enrolled if they received SNAP, FITAP, KCSP, or income-based Medicaid between July 2024 and August 2025, or if they attend a school offering free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch or Breakfast Program.

Tryouts May 7 & 8

2. Packets will be given out April 23 to those that sign up

3. Packets are due back to the to the front office Monday May 6 at noon. 

4. Packets will include a medical physical. Physicals must have an expiration date not before 12/31/25.

5. Students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing and be free of school debt. 

Internships are open to SMP public school students who have completed 11th grade in the 2024-2025 school year. 

Courses are open to SMP public school students who have completed 10th or 11th grades in the 2024-2025 school year. 

Calling all dancers!
1. Students will sign up during PE April 28 & 29.

We, Children and Nutrition, Inc., reimburse you (paid money) for the food that you serve to the children you babysit; you must babysit at least one non-resident child. Grandparents may also qualify. This program is not limited to low-income homes. Anyone who baby-sits children in their home may qualify.

Football Tryouts

April 9th and 10th

-Attendance is mandatory each day of tryouts

-Students trying out must sign up at school March 17-19

-Sign ups will take place during PE

-Students entering 6th, 7th and 8th grade are eligible

-Those that sign up will be given a packet March 20

-Completed packets must be returned Monday, April 7th to ensure tryout eligibility

-The packet contains: 

1. Enrollment form (2 proofs of residency within the last 30 days)

2. District athletic packet which includes a medical physical

3. Medical physicals must have an expiration date not before December 31, 2025

4. Incomplete packets will not be accepted

5. Packets are due to the front office by noon, April 7th

Band concert: May 15 @ 6pm.
